Constitution & Statutes for Southwark Cathedral

On 10 April 2022 we begin a process of consultation with the Cathedral community and parish to allow members of our community to comment on the Cathedral’s proposed new governing documents of our Cathedral - the Constitution and Statutes

This follows the approval by General Synod of a new Cathedrals Measure which came into law last year and requires all cathedrals to prepare a new set of Constitution and Statutes and to apply to the UK Charity Commission for registration as a charity.

Here you can find copies of the draft Constitution and Statutes, a short explanation of the consultation process and the dates on which the Dean and others involved in the drafting of the new documents will be available to answer your questions. Paper copies of this information can also be picked up at reception or from the vergers, but to keep our use of paper to a minimum, we would encourage you to access them through this website.

Consultation period is from 10 April to 5pm 8 May. A webinar, hosted by the Dean with the Chief Operating Officer, Justine Horseman Sewell, Cathedral Warden, Daniel Chumbley, and Diocesan Registrar, Jon Baldwin, will be held on Wednesday 20 April at 7pm.  A link will be published nearer the time.

An in-person presentation will be held in the Cathedral on Sunday 24 April at 12.30pm.
