Occasionally access to the Cathedral may be restricted due to events taking place.

Southwark Cathedral is a busy working church, regularly hosting services and events. It may be neccessary to close all or part of the Cathedral to visitors to allow for these events to take place. 

The Cathedral Shop and Cathedral Cafe will remain open during these times unless stated otherwise.


Wednesday 7 January

Access to the Nave of the Cathedral will be restricted at the following times:

10am - 12pm | due to a Learning Centre event taking place in the morning

1.30 - 3.15pm | due to a funeral service taking place

Our Cathedral Stewards will open the Cathedral as soon as possible after each event.   


Monday 12 - Wednesday 14 January 

The Cathedral will be closed to visitors on these days due to filming taking place across the site. Our regular services will continue in the Harvard Chapel. Please speak to one of our front of house team if you would like to attend one of the services and they will escort you to the chapel. 

On Tuesday 13 January, the Tutu Room will be set aside for those who need a space for private prayer and reflection. 


Monday 19 January 

The Cathedral will be closed to visitors on theis days due to filming taking place across the site. Our regular services will continue in the Harvard Chapel. Please speak to one of our front of house team if you would like to attend one of the services and they will escort you to the chapel.

Friday 30 January

The Cathedral will be closed until 1pm due to a memorial service taking place.
