Brand New commission marks the Dean's Retirement

The first performance of the new ‘Southwark Service’ by Nico Muhly will take place on Saturday 1 July at 3pm.

Much excitement in our Music Department as American composer Nico Muhly came to work with our cathedral girl choristers last week. The first performance of the new ‘Southwark Service’ by Nico Muhly will take place this Saturday at 3pm. Our Organist & Director of Music, Ian Keatley, commented: ‘I first worked with our Dean, Andrew Nunn, back in 2002. I wanted to do something very special for his retirement and this new set of canticles by Nico Muhly is dedicated to Fr Andrew with our love and heartfelt thanks. I am very grateful to The Friends of Southwark Cathedral whose very generous donation made this possible.’

Because our boy choristers did not get to meet Nico in person, we are pleased to share his video message to the choristers.
